Infotech-Baltika M begins carrying cargo for Kaustik in innovative tank containers

Infotech-Baltika M has signed a transport service contract with Kaustik, one of the largest producers of caustic soda and sodium hydroxide. A logistics scheme covering every stage of carriage was proposed for the shipments.

For the first time, a fleet of innovative tank containers with a shell made of polymer composite materials, produced by Uralvagonzavod, was used to carry cargo that is chemically aggressive: hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide.

“We offered one of the largest enterprises in the chemical industry a unique service: we not only arranged every stage of the carriage but also ensured maximum safety of the cargo by using innovative composite equipment,” says Alexander Alexeev, general director of Infotech-Baltika M.

The lower delivery cost of tank containers compared with rail tank wagons comes from the current difference in tariffs under Price List 10-01, and from the universal design of the tank container, which allows multimodal carriage. Part of the route is covered by rail, after which the container is transferred to road transport and delivered practically to the client's door.

Compared with stainless steel equivalents the new model has a low tare weight of 4.3 t and an increased payload: at a maximum gross weight of 36 t it can carry up to 31.7 t of chemical cargo. That is the best figure for container equipment, with a shell volume of 24 m³.
