The Prime Minister of Russia visits the Uralvagonzavod stand at Transport of Russia 2016

Dmitry Medvedev supported new developments by Uralvagonzavod, in particular the production model of a tank container made of polymer composite materials for carrying chemical cargo.

The Prime Minister of the Russian Federation visited the stand of the Uralvagonzavod research and production corporation on the final day of the tenth International Forum and Exhibition Transport of Russia 2016, the corporation's press service reported. “The Prime Minister visited the stand accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich, Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov, Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov and the president of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov,” the statement said.

The corporation's general director Oleg Sienko presented the production model of the KTsKh.PKM-25/0.4 tank container, made of polymer composite materials for a wide range of chemical cargo. It was developed with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and series production was prepared with the support of the Industrial Development Fund.

Andrey Shlensky, deputy general director for rail equipment at Uralvagonzavod, noted that immediately after the forum the container would go into trial operation with the customer, Spetstransgarant, which had already bought it. At that point the KTsKh.PKM-25/0.4 was already in successful service with Infotech-Baltika M, an operator specialising in container transport.

The main difference and competitive advantage of the tank container is its shell, made of composite materials. Their use solved a number of problems, including reducing the tare weight, which increased the payload, and removing the question of corrosion of the inner surface of the shell. “In this design there is no interaction between the container and the cargo carried. Once the cargo has been carried and discharged, the inner surface only needs to be treated with warm water and the container is ready for the next load,” the statement said.

“We have high hopes for this development,” said Andrey Shlensky. “The combination of a high payload and low operating costs sets the Uralvagonzavod tank container apart from existing metal equivalents made abroad. We see strong demand in the market for carrying various chemical cargoes, and the Russian tank container should meet all of it.”

At the closing ceremony of Transport of Russia 2016, Uralvagonzavod received a diploma for the functionality of its design solution and the best presentation of a high-technology product.
